If-Then statements
If-Then statements are conditional statements. If this happens (hypothesis), then that will happen (conclusion).
2 Chronicles 7:14 is a powerful conditional statement.
…. if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV)
Check out my interpretation of this verse.
…. if the Christians in America humble themselves, and pray and seek God’s face and turn from their wicked ways, then God will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal America.
What do you think?
Ray,
Isn’t this for the Jewish people suffering because they had turned from Yahweh and are worshipping idols? The land refers to their nation which was a theocracy. I am not sure this promise is for Christians in the US. I don’t mean that our prayers are ineffectual. I am saying that the deep problems in the US are not the result of Christians turning to idols. This country is not and was not special like Israel during the BC era. But even if this promise or ‘if-then’ phrase is not for us today, we know the prayer of the righteous bring about change in this world. So we should be fervent in prayer. Thanks for the reminder.
Blessings

This passage was directed to the Jewish people, but I do believe that the principle is one that applies to others outside of the Jewish nation.
